Mohammed worked for 23 years as a chef in an Indian restaurant, and 9 years as a volunteer to the BME community before starting out his journey as a Community Entrepreneur.
Community Entrepreneurs were employed as a pilot study funded by the Crown. Coming from a disadvantaged background, the Community Entrepreneurs were given the opportunity and support to think of a business idea and work with their communities in disadvantaged areas. This project is now an established Social Enterprise.
Mohammed’s business concept was to train BME women in translation and interpretation skills who could then either work for Mohammed’s organisation Hear-U-Clear or become self-employed. Hear-U-Clear is a social enterprise that will engage, encourage and train local parents to deliver an interpreting and translating service within North Tyneside.
Mohammed’s business was a winner in Sunderland University’s Business Plan Competition and a finalist at Blueprint 2011.
